2011 Jan >20% and 2011 Outrageous Annual >200% Oil Stock Competitions.....

Sunday, Dec 26 2010 by
9

Christmas 2010 has come and gone. The kids and wife are happy with this year's preszzies. Now it's time to plan for my big preszzie(s) for Christmas 2011......

You may enter any of the options: (i), (ii), (iii), (iv).

Monthly Competition:

For the January 2011 “>20%” monthly oil stock competition, which oil stocks will have the greatest move for

(i) >20% gain?
(ii) >20% loss?

You may enter two stocks, one for (i) and one for (ii). More than one person may enter the same stock. The deadline for the January competition is midnight on Monday (holiday), 3 January 2011.

Annual Competition:

For the 2011 Outrageous “>200%” Annual Oil Stock Competition for period 1 Jan to 31 Dec 2011, which oil stocks will have the greatest move for

(iii) >200% gain?
(iv) >50% loss (i.e. down a lot)

You may enter two stocks, one for (iii) and one for (iv). More than one person may enter the same stock. Deadline for the annual competition is also midnight on Monday (holiday), 3 January 2011.

Good luck and happy hunting in 2011!!!!!!!!!!

p.s. Year 2010 results will be posted a.s.a.p. next weekend.

EOG for 20% up - Cashflow going forward should be good when WF drilling completed.

PMG for 20% down - Enough said on this I think

SMDR for 200% up - A steady climb on low risk drill success and reaching and sustaining 23000 boepd

HAWK for 200% down - So glad I heeded warnings from Marben and I just get the impression hawk is going to struggle for future funding with existing asset base.

As ever, thanks FB.

For the MONTHLY comp, please may pick:

UP:   PPC (President Petroleum). The results of Kafoury 3 should be out soon. AIUI the shallow sands have a 66% CoS (and would add 9bcf net), while the deeper sands have a 33% CoS (and would add 51bcf net). Success at the deeper levels would lead to a couple more deep wells. On top of this, Northumberland 2 (in Aus) is looming.... expected to spud by Feb.  AIUI this has a 30% CoS and is targetting 40mmbbls (but there is a prospective >400mmbbls on the acreage).

DOWN:  I don't often do downs but PMG is so obvious that I can't resist joining the herd.

For the ANNUAL  comp I was thinking of going for IRG - Independent Resources, which is a simple gamble on the RIvara gas storage project.  If it comes off then IRG will soar - if not... well it certainly won't.  However, I have gone for IRG in the Nicky Fraser comp, so please may I pick:

UPPVR - Providence Resources.  This company went through an unloved patch but has gradually assembled some production together with good looking explo acreage offshore Ireland.  2011 should be an interesting year.

DOWN:   FRR - Frontier Resources.  I cannot understand how it clings on to life, poor thing.

Thanks again,

AA

Reminder: Closing date for the 2011 January and 2011 Annual competitions closes on midnight, Monday, 3 January 2011.

My entries are as follows:

Jan 2011:

Up >20%: EO.
Varadero well results expected in January. Hoepfully positive.

Down >20%: XEL
More details on the well test results are preferred.

2011:

Up >200%: EO. (Good drilling results keep on coming in 2011...hopefully) or SER (low market cap, £2.83mm, but could multiply if their steamflood project is successful and SER's pipeline asset is reactivated). Will go for SER.

Down >50%: MATD
Well test results in 2011 will probably determine the long term direction of the share price.

Hello FB

For the year:

UP:
Let's say Ascent (AST) on unexpected success in Slovenia (or anywhere else, for that matter).
(Iwas also tempted by MOG -any farm in deal etc on their actually quite interesting assets.)
DOWN.
Parkmead (PMG). Mind you, I would hesitate to short them!

For January

UP.

Europa Oil & Gas (EOG)-people getting excited about their various activities, perhaps as a result of newspaper or mag. tips.

DOWN

Parkmead PMG, on all the BB people saying it will go down!

For January:-

+ 20% Global Energy Development (GED.L)

News on the workover and replacement of corroded tubing on the Boral 1 well is overdue. Completion of this work should result in recovery of lost production and improve cash flows. Additionally, the start of drilling of the Tilodiran 4 & 5 development wells would increase interest, although the timescale for this has not been set for the coming month and may well be later. With a free float <25% it won't take a lot to get the SP moving.

- 20% Parkmead (PMG.L)

Because hot air has to cool sometime, and I hope Logs short succeeds.

For the year:-

+ 200% Aminex (AEX.L)

There is plenty of news to look forward to from both the USA and East Africa. The Company has been successful in managing the funding risks and keeping its exposure to opportunity open. One of these years its luck will turn. If it can succeed in achieving cash flow from the USA it will have the lifeline to developthe African interests.  Not for widows and orphans IMHO.

- 200 Frontera (FRR.L)

Miracles could happen but, having had a very small position here in the past that encouraged some research, and a hasty withdrawal to limit the damage, I can't see a reason for it to survive the year.

Happy New Year FB,

Fuiseog

Nautical (NPE) please for the Jan riser. Hoping the Varadero well will come in and feeling that NPE is still comparatively underpriced compared to Encore. And thinking the Vast result may not be out in Jan.

Vast for the annual comp riser please. S*** or bust.

In reply to flyingbull, post #25

For the "January 2011" >20% Up results:
No doubt about the winners, safetyfirst and wshak, with EOG  galloping away
with a massive 56.4% gain! Great results and big congratulations!!!

For the "January 2011" >20% Down results:
The massive "reverse" following for PMG and DES did not quite match the
the massive drop by WBN with a sore landing of 45.5% down. Congratulations
to simonbayliss for outpacing the masses!!!

Firstly, wishing you all a very Happy and “Fruitful” 2012!!!!!!!

Both 2009 and 2010 were great years for oil stocks, as can be seen from the Averages below, obtained from the Annual Oil Stock Competitions for those years. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for 2011. Hopefully back to normal service in 2012 for the >200% Up competition............

2009 2010 2011
>200% Up +115.6% +43.4% -41.4%
>50% Down (a Lot) +102.9% -26.4% -54.2%

No doubt about the winner for the 2011 >200% Up Competition!!!!! CEO, rode by TheGreatGeraldo has outrun
everyone, including a flying bull, and recorded a massive 148% gain. It just showed some good discoveries and flow tests can do wonders to the share price. Congratulations to Tgg!!!!!

But then....Emptyend did put a spanner in the works and nominated “no E&P stock will see a 200% rise over the full year”......which turned out to be the case for 2011!! So arguably, ee is the winner!!!

If it is alright, I’ll treat them both as Winners!!!! Congratulations!!!!!!

There was quite a battle for the 2011 >50% Down a Lot Competition. Eventually MATD with a -79.5% Down just edged out FRR and HAWK!!!! Sadly for MATD, it had to learn the hard way...good flow tests are key for the Reserves and the share price. Congratulations to davjo and flyingbull for winning this competition!!!

Any error in the results, please email me off-board and I’ll revise where necessary.

Thank you :-)     And congrats to tgg.

Even more scarily, I don't think I was too far off with my the macro comment in post 8:

I'll stick my neck out and suggest that no E&P stock (well, none that I can comment on anyway) will see a 200% rise over the full year (though some may well see 200% intra-year). That is quite unlikely, because there is no shortage of "Hail Mary" stocks as Darron calls them....but I have a strong feeling that the speculative end of the market has generally got a long way ahead of itself in the latter part of 2010. And I  am also wary about the overall market, which seems to be blithely sailing on into uncharted waters without much sense for how the interest rate environment and the QE process will unwind (never mind geopolitical issues, the Euro, and random natural events - several of which are now seriously "overdue").

...though I failed to specifically foresee the tsunami and the Arab Spring. Fortunately I am feeling much more positive about 2012 (in contrast to most commentators)....though I'm wary about the "Waiting for Godot" risk of making specific stock forecasts.

Hi ee,

Glad you're feeling more positive for 2012!!!!!

The year end FTSE 100 index is still c.8.5% below the peak achieved in 2011. I think the longer this underperformance goes on, the more likely of a rerating upwards in FTSE 100. When that occurs, it should have a positive effect on the oil stocks. There might be bumps along the way over the course of 2012 but I feel quite a few of the oil stocks are due for a rerating, especially if they have some drilling successes along the way.

Yup.

IMO people are too universally negative - though there may be more turmoil in the coming months first.

Is there a 2012 thread?
