It's a useful feature to be able to edit posts.
After a while the edit button disappears. Is it simply timed?
I can understand the reasons for not allowing retrospective changes to posts but I would have thought that leaving the edit button available for longer would be useful especially if no-one has added a further post.
Thanks
B.

Yes it is timed. Two hours (or perhaps one?)
The reason is that (unlike on ADVFN) historical views shouldn't be re-written.
It is occasionally inconvenient (as yesterday when I realised I'd made a small error three hours after posting) but I think the balanace is about right.
Hi bugsmunny - yes editing is currently only allowed for the first two hours after submitting a comment on a thread or article.
Thread 'headers' can be edited at any time, but the full version history is available for view in case of dispute. Articles can't be edited once published without contacting the site editors due to potential penalties from the sites we syndicate to. For further clarification please see the site FAQ
As emptyend has stated, the inability to edit a comment is occasionally inconvenient, but we hope it helps promote a more respectful and considered posting environment. It's also important for us to keep a check on retroactive editing in case of legal dispute.
I hope that helps.
