Ok so a few contacts have done ok with Sareum (LON:SAR) shares over the last few days, it was only brought to my attention properly today and think i may of missed the main growth with this one, its a Cancer Research company that has had positive news about where the company is heading, the SP has literally tripled in a very short time due this news. It has come down somewhat and if the SP continues to come down then i may buy in to this.

There's some colour here - http://www.guardian.co.uk/business/marketforceslive/2011/mar/04/sareum-soars-cancer-inhibitor

it's just a pre-clinical trial, it's not like there's any sign of a licensing agreement...  It is still very early stage - it might be worth a fortune or potentially nothing depending on years of newsflow to follow. Speculative biotech isn't for the faint hearted.

How would one go about valuing a company like this?

Yes it does seem very risky as there is no solid evidence of the companies background, although after research they do seem to have a good strategy and they hope to be in the process of having human trials in the future, once this is / if it was passed there would be a massive increase in my opinion, and lol can you imagine holding shares in them if they cured cancer? 10k would probably turn in to 10 mil

In the meantime i was thinking more as a day trade, if this retraced down to a low level... i'd be happy to buy in, but not with a major amount

I'm looking for an entry point. I was trying to follow it 2 weeks ago but kept mis-spelling it, i thought it was Serum.

Never buy on a spike is what i was told. A good friend of mine told me about them when they were 0.25p last year. Shame I never knew how it was spelt before hand.

As I alluded to, momentum trading without a real understanding of value based on the fundamental drivers for a stock seems a bit like Russian roulette. Some times, maybe even much of the time, one might make money but every now and then, the gun will go off. Not my cup of tea.

This stock has been exceptionally volatile over the last month or so. Irrational exuberance perhaps. It's proposed cancer treatment hasn't even made it through Phase 1 trials! And after that,Phase 2 and Phase 3 beckons before registration. It's quite an ask for a treatment to make it through all the hurdles and whilst one might miss the first spike by waiting, I'd far rather wait for at least Phase 1 to be completed.

That's just me though, having been burned on pharmaceutical companies before.Eg Skyepharma/ IVM
