About Me:

I purchased my first share in my teens, and have been interested on and off since then. I have worked at NICO, have worked in the promo industry, and manage an investment portfolio. I graduated with a first degree in BA (hons) Finance and Investment Management, and have followed the markets since 2002, when I was sixteen, and have been a Private Investor since late 2008. Over this time I have written a blog, and posted a number of stock picks through Gray's Stocks to Watch, to date which have been highly successful (touch wood...).

I first came across Finsbury Food (LON:FIF) in 2010 when they were at 16p a share, or at a market cap of under £10m. At first glance that valuation seemed ludicrous, they had decent cash flow, turnover of £170m, profits after tax of £3.29m, better still, they operated in niche areas of the cake business, all these areas to which they were, if not the…

Around this time last year, after a number of requests, I posted the top ten questions I asked when looking at an oil and gas company.  But earlier in the year, I was asked if I would post up a more comprehensive list.  Therefore here is the full list for the questions I normally ask when looking at an oil and gas company.  Just to…

It has been a very interesting month, which has seen the tragedy of the Japanese Earthquake, the conflict in Libya and continued unrest in other Middle Eastern nations.  These factors have been the main things driving the markets this month.  But there has also been a lot of company news released this month, with a brace of interims and finals being released along with other…

With the end of the tax year coming up, if you have any of your capital gains allowance left it may be wise to consider using it up.  Below I will explain a way in which this can be done efficiently, without having to suffer from the thirty day 'Bed and Breakfast' rules. To do this you need to have an ISA, and for this…

There has been a lot going on at Rheochem (LON:RHEP) lately, with them acquiring a number of licences in the UK’s 26th licensing round, and the continued progress towards production of Athena, which will give them production of an initial 2,000 bopd by the year.  But there were questions about whether they could finance their part of the large capital spend at Athena, as just…

which is why I asked Gray how he became interested Apologies Tournosol, I got so distracted by other posts I forgot you asked that.  I got into IGas Energy (LON:IGAS) for three main reasons: the high calibre of the management team, who were all heavily invested at the time; the what I felt massive potential of their acreage, and the continued success of their testing…

To start...  this was not the debate I was expecting... and I fail to see how what I do in my spare time really has any inflence on this... and there is a lot I could rise to, but do not want to waste peoples time, so I will say nothing more on that...  Also I will update my about me on this site since…

EE.  The list is not a checklist, I did not give it that title, it is a list of the things I look for and the things that catch my eye, each point a potential starting point for directions of research. I'm afraid this betrays fundamental misunderstandings of corporate finance. I completely disagree.  If you saw a  company (E & P or not) with 2bn…

EE:  I think you are looking at what I have posted in the wrong context.  All it was meant to be was a brief list of things I look for, and things that catch my eye.  For example, you mention the point on 3D seismic, that could be a full article in its own right.  You could go on and on about its use offshore,…

It seems the good news and progress at Antrim keeps coming: http://www.investegate.co.uk/Article.aspx?id=20110419135959M7046 Very good to see them on track, and the results will be interesting when released. Lets just hope that the share price finally starts moving in the right direction for once, rather than stagnation or falling of the last year. As this year really should be the year that makes Antrim if drilling…
