About Me:

Resident in the United Arab Emirates for over thirty years, I've naturally become rather interested in the local oil and gas industry, and have written many  thousands of words about the industry's origins, history and current and future plans. From that perspective, I've tracked the UAE's involvement in Oil and Gas elsewhere, with a particular focus on the political and diplomatic aspects, especially in Central Asia and East Africa. I wouldn't claim to understand the technical side - at all - but am, at least, able to call on a few friends to try to explain it to me.  As always, in terms of investing, sometimes I get it right and sometimes I get it wrong. It provides an interesting diversion from other activities, though.

Let me first try to come at the broader issue of the current unrest in the Arab world from a political / stability perspective. As some posters know, my 'day job' involves, in part, keeping an eye on such things. Then I'll turn to some of the possible implications with regards to companies and O & G investment. The situation is evolving so rapidly, that…

The overwhelming majority of the Oil and Gas companies discussed on Stockopedia are listed in the UK and, to a lesser extent, Canada. As noted by several posters, there are plenty of other markets, and other companies, which might be worth a look. This post covers one of them, Warsaw-listed Kulcyzk Oil Ventures, KOV.PW   Why on earth am I bothering about a company on the…

There are few opportunities for the ordinary investor to get involved with the activities of E&P companies controlled by people from the United Arab Emirates. Anything important within the country is usually state-controlled, while, when they're active overseas, the only option has tended to be through investing in companies with whom they share acreage. Now, though, there's an opportunity, through a reverse take-over deal between…

Interesting news today from Turkmenistan on its offshore Caspian O & G, with good news for the US, the Chinese, Abu Dhabi - and perhaps others too. Not such good news, though, for Dubai-controlled Dragon Oil (DGO.L), who seem to be lagging behind. Some weblinks:   http://af.reuters.com/article/energyOilNews/idAFLDE67C0KN20100813   Turkmenistan selects U.S. majors for oil projects Chevron, ConocoPhillips and TX Oil, along with Abu Dhabi's Mubadala, to get…

This thread is for any news relating to UAE (or UAE-related) oil and gas companies, whether government controlled or private, can be posted, along with other snippets relating to the UAE O & G sector, including UAE comments with regards to OPEC. Snippets from other Gulf states welcome - but, where appropriate, please cross-post on specific company boards, e.g. DGO, GKP, etc. Overseas interests/activity by…

A press story on the testing at Markwells Wood, quoting NOP boss Derek Musgrove http://www.portsmouth.co.uk/news/local/east-hampshire/black_gold_pumped_up_from_the_ground_and_it_s_the_good_stuff_1_3333147 sounds a bit hyped up to me, but who knows ? An RNS later, one assumes, if it's as exciting as the reporter seems to think. Thanks to MrContrarian on TMF for flagging it up. Man Siarad
