For the quarter to 5 January, total sales were up 3.9% with like-for-like sales up 1.5%, after what the company called a "record-breaking Christmas". But the share price had blipped up in anticipation, before falling back slightly on the actual news.

Small Cap Report - SBRY, TED, GRG, ZTF

Paul Scott published:
J Sainsbury (LON:SBRY)
Sainsbury's (SBRY) is my favourite of the Listed supermarkets, simply because they seem to be executing better than the others. Also, it's intangible, but as a customer when shopping at Sainsbury's, I just somehow feel positive (maybe it's the colour scheme, store layouts, staff attitude, the product, who knows?). When I shop in Tesco, it feels the opposite - somehow more stressful and unpleasant. Can't explain it, but there has to be a reason for that. With a positive Xmas trading update issued this morning, with LFL sales up...

Small Cap Report: INL, SBRY, SDY, BLNX

Paul Scott published:
Good morning. Nice and early again today. Please note my new article last night on excessive board room pay at small, AIM-listed property company Inland Homes (INL). Should be an interesting AGM on 27 Nov, I'll be attending to make these points in person. Directors really do need to think more carefully about aligning their rewards with shareholder value, and not simply using the company like a personal slush fund. I regard good corporate governance, and fair executive pay, aligned with shareholder interests, as being of absolutely paramount importance. If that means...

re. While news of the tax surprise in March inevitably dented shares in the £520 million market cap company, there are still reasons to be cheerful, and no shortage of column inches to promote its products either.

Shareholder pay-outs from London listed blue chips hit record levels last year and the signs are that dividend growth will continue again in 2012. The trouble of course is that even the most stoic investors in some of the sturdiest FTSE 100 stocks can never be certain of a sure thing. With economic malaise still weighing heavily, those of us...

Conygar deal with Sainsbury’s brings momentum to Haverfordwest development

Stockopedia News -:
Real estate investment group Conygar Investment Company (LON:CIC) has exchanged contracts with supermarket group J Sainsbury (LON:SBRY) for the sale of nine acres for a new store on its 93 acre development site at Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire, subject to the obtaining of a suitable planning consent.
