Cairn Energy PLC (Cairn) is an independent oil and gas exploration and development company. It is organized into two business units: Cairn Energy Group and Cairn India Group. The Cairn Energy Group’s operations focuses on new exploration activities in Greenland and the Mediterranean. The Company’s Mediterranean and South Asia operating segments are combined into the Other Cairn Energy Group. The Company's South Asia business unit holds its interests in Nepal and a share in certain North Indian assets operated by Cairn India Limited. During the year ended December 31, 2011, the Company completed the sale of a 40% shareholding in Cairn India Limited to Vedanta Resources plc. In January 2011, Government of Greenland confirmed it as operator of Atammik and Lady Franklin blocks, and acquired 47.5% interest. On May 9, 2012, it acquired Agora Oil & Gas AS.
