Hammerson plc is a real estate investment trust (REIT). The principal activities of the Company include property investment and development. It invests in shopping centers, retail parks and offices. It owns a portfolio of property assets in the United Kingdom and France. As of December 31, 2011, its retail portfolio provided 1.7 million square meters of space and included 18 shopping centers and 18 retail parks. The six buildings in central London provided 108,000 square meters of accommodation. In March 2011, the Company acquired its partner’s 75% interest in Central Retail Park, Falkirk, and it purchased a portfolio of five assets from St. Martins Property Investments Limited. In February 2011, it acquired a 50% interest in SQY Ouest. In March 2011, it acquired Elliott’s Field Retail Park. In May 2013, Hammerson PLC raised its interest to 50% from 33.3% by acquiring a 16.7% stake in Bullring Shopping Centre.
